Mother’s day is right around the corner and although it may seem like it is not the time to celebrate its important now more than ever that we take the time to celebrate all the mamas in our lives who have recently taken on more roles like being their child’s teacher, or been forced to stay away from their growing grand babies!
With everything going on I have tried to be even more conscious of where I am getting things for my family and aiming to support more local businesses as they are the ones being hit the hardest by this pandemic as well as the ones that will help to stimulate our local economy. I thought I would compile a list of some Mother’s day gift ideas found locally for all the special mamas in your life or maybe just for yourself! This would also be a good list to send to your husband or children as a little reminder that Mother’s Day is fast approaching.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas from Small Shops in Alberta
1) Bean and Bear Co, Okotoks, Alberta Instagram: beanandbear.co
This little shop I’ve shared before because I am absolutely in love with their products! The owner is a local Okotoks mama who makes the best scrunchies. She also recently started making face masks that double as headbands and specially made headbands for healthcare workers with buttons on either side of the band to attach the surgical masks to protect their ears from skin breakdown as it is now mandatory for them to be wearing protective masks throughout most of their shift. Scrunchies are a staple in anyone’s mom uniform and would make the perfect gift and if you have a healthcare worker who is also a mama the headbands would be a great way to show your appreciation for all the hard work they are doing to keep us safe. 2) Temper + Lace, High River Alberta Instagram: temperandlace
This small shop is local to High River and makes the most beautiful candles! The candles are all handmade and made with fragrance oils that are paraben and phthalate free. You can tell that each candle is made with care and each scent is thoughtfully chosen. For example this lovely candle was created with the popular local diner Evelyn’s Memory Lane in mind. She also sells essential oils and apparel!
3) Everline and Co, Calgary Alberta Instagram: everlineandco
This Calgary mama has created the cutest shop filled with beautiful necklaces and jewelry. Her shop also has an amazing mother’s day box that contains a ton of lovely locally made products like one of her necklaces, a Bean and Bear Co scrunchie and so many other beautiful products that every mama is sure to love! Give her a follow on Instagram as well she, along with another locally based mom Millies Little Closet, created an online market called Darling Details Market where they share multiple local vendors to recreate the markets we normally go to year round in person online!
4) Pranic Forest, Calgary, Alberta Instagram: pranicforest
These guys are packed with all sorts of things to pamper your favourite mamas or better yet yourself! They have everything from bath bombs to facial oils to lip treatments. Animal cruelty free and free of the chemicals you don’t want on your skin like parabens or formaldehyde you can rest assured that you’re giving the women in your life safe products to help them zen out.
5) Mountain Stone Jewelry, Calgary Alberta Instagram: mountainstonejewelry
This small shop was created by a local teacher with a passion to make gorgeous jewelry that fits just about every person’s style. My favourite are the beautiful bracelets she creates like the one down below as well as the ones with lava stones for you to put your own essential oils on.
6) The Naked Parent, Lethbridge, Alberta Instagram: the_naked_parent
I’ve talked about this lovely shop before! They are three mamas local to Lethbridge busting out the sweetest apparel! I LIVE in my Wild Mama crewneck and have my eye on their Mamahood Tee. Any of their products would be a perfect fit to add to anyone’s mom uniform.
7) Sweet Peas and Peonies, High River, Alberta Instagram: sweetpeas.and.peonies
The owner of this lovely company is local to High River and makes the sweetest matching headbands for mamas and minis. Her shop is currently limited in stock given the way things are these days with a pandemic raging on but give her a follow on Instagram and stay tuned to her stories where she posts what is available for sale!

Amy and Aaron are a couple based out of Calgary creating the most beautiful handmade wood creations. With custom made signs and string art you can get a gift that’s even more special by having it personalized just for them. This gem of a local shop has the cutest cards EVER. I had way too hard of a time trying to pick just a couple to order and may have ordered a few extras. Whether you want something sweet or a card with a little humor they have it all and plenty of others for all the other occasions you love to celebrate!
10) Ollia Macarons & Tea, Calgary, Alberta Instagram: byollia
I stumbled across this adorable local shop and I cannot wait to visit it once all this is over. They make the most gorgeous macarons with the prettiest details and colours. With curb-side pickup and delivery available these would be the perfect way to sweeten anybody’s day.
